About Penei Moshe on Jerusalem Talmud

Penei Moshe (“The Face of Moses”) is the earliest known commentary on the entire Jerusalem Talmud, composed in the 18th century by Rabbi Moshe Margalit. It aims to provide simple explanations of the talmudic text, similar to Rashi’s commentary on the Babylonian Talmud. Only parts of the commentary were published in the author’s lifetime, while the rest were published posthumously. Penei Moshe, together with the Korban HaEdah commentary, is printed alongside the text of the Talmud in almost every printed edition of the Jerusalem Talmud. The author’s longer, more analytic commentary, Mareh HaPanim, appears underneath the talmudic text in standard printed editions.
